Fundraisers

*************************************************

Books to Prisoners is seeking a Grant Writer to identify and develop funding sources to support our operation. This position is open to anyone with the skills, knowledge, and follow-through to successfully:

  • Research funding opportunities (from corporations, foundations and various government entities).
  • Prepare grant proposals and applications.
  • Track and monitor pending grant requests.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare thank you letters to foundations.
  • Eat pizza with us every Tuesday night (optional).

*************************************************

We welcome ideas from the community about future ideas for fundraisers!

Please contact us if you or your group would like to raise funds to help get books to people in prison. When funds are really low, the packages pile up and we rack our brains for fund-raising ideas... this is something anyone can help us do, and we are always interested in help with benefits.

Currently most of our funds go toward shipping costs, although we also purchase dictionaries due to overwhelming requests. We spend very little on shipping supplies, wrapping paper, copies, and packaging tape; these are usually donated by our volunteers.

New or used dictionaries are always needed, because around half the letters both groups answer include a request for a dictionary or thesaurus. So if your group wants to help in a really important way, you could ask people to contribute dictionaries as a "cover" charge for your event and drop them off at one of our drop boxes around town, or stop by during a mailing day!
